工作坊目標
Objectives

語言技能的習得不僅需靠著授課瞭解概念與內涵,更需要透過學以致用以檢視學習成果,本工作坊目的即在提供連續三小時「即學即用」的機會,讓工作坊參與者能夠透過每週一小時的講解及練習,可增進學術英文之兩大重要技能、且應用該技巧之機會。
因此,本學期之工作坊以兩大學術英文技巧「學術聽力」及「學術寫作整合」為主,幫助同學從學習者的角度,設計每週進行一小時、連續三週之實作課程(short courses)

中正大學全體學生(學士班、碩士班、博士班)皆可報名參加

 

備註

  1. 每一系列課程為期3週、每週各1小時之課程,需連續參加該系列3小時課程者,可計入5小時之應外英外語學程之自學時數
  2. 工作坊提供之講義、學習單等學習資料,費用皆由由教育部資訊及科技教育司「多元文化語境計畫」經費支應。

iWork for Academic Listening

Introduction

This 3-hour workshop (1 hour per week; a total of three weeks) is designed to help participants develop integrated academic writing skills. These writing skills are the academic English language skills needed for success at English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) programs or at the universities of English speaking countries. Participants will need to participate in 3 sessions of 1 hour of direct instruction and intensive practice (There are 3 hours in total to earn 5 hours of self-access learning time).

The iWork workshop is very interactive and intensive, because we believe that the best way to build language competency and language awareness is by using the language more and by getting more practices.

Participants are encouraged to attend the three-hour workshop (1 hour per week) ON TIME for better learning outcomes, so please register for all THREE hours and do not miss any one of them.

Expected Learning Outcomes

By the end of the 3-hour session, participants will be able to…

  1. Efficiently comprehend an oral lecture or a listening comprehension passage in academic fields.
  2. Distinguish relevant from irrelevant information, identify the topic and main ideas of an academic lecture, & take notes.
  3. Demonstrate note-taking skills for academic contexts including keywords, outlines, symbols, abbreviations, and editing for notes.
  4. Understand lecture structure, style and sequencing and how lecturers develop main ideas, and use supporting details.

For ALS course takers: The hours can count as SAL requirements. (Participants will earn 5 hours self-access learning if they come to the three-hour workshop on time.)

 

Funded

This workshop is a part of the “Language Competency and Cultural Diversity Cultivation Project” which is funded by Ministry of Education (MOE); thus there is no fee for participating in the workshop. All the expenses related to the instruction and practices in the workshop will be covered by this MOE project.

  1. demonstrate familiarity with the assessment format of the TOEFL integrated writing
  2. practice note-taking skills for reading and listening
  3. practice summary and paraphrasing skills
  4. demonstrate understanding of the assessment criteria by revising written work that address these assessment criteria
  5. practice particular grammatical patterns that occur regularly on the essay writing
  6. write timed integrated writing in actual test-taking conditions so that you become familiar with and more comfortable with test situations
  7. apply the skills learned in the previous two sessions to improve the quality and quantity of writing you produce under time pressure
